differences in a 1/2 and 3/4 trucks?
Just got to looking on line at trucks and built two trucks and the price was about $600 in difference. One was a F150 XLT 5.4L V8 4x4 Supercrew. The other was a F250 XLT 5.4L V8 manual tran Supercrew 4x4. The F250 was only $600 more. Is there a real difference in gas mileage between the two? The only thing i can see that will make some difference is the gears. The F150 has 3.55's and the F250 has 3.73's. Will that make alot of difference in gas mileage? The tow ratings between the two are only 200lbs or so different but of course the payload rating is higher for the F250.
Im toying with the idea of having a new F250 4X4 with the 5.4L V8 and manual transmission. I dont pull anything to heavy to pull with a F150 but i really like the body style of the F250 and i would love to have a manual transmission, that you cant get with a F150 XLT supercrew. What else am i missing that would cost way more in maintence besides tires in a higher ply rating?

Yeah, but if I recall the V10 is only $700 more.

the reason im asking is i was told that the F250's with the 5.4L got 5-8 mpg less than a F150 5.4L by a dude that knows someone that has one. I dont need a F250 for the extra towing capacity, i just love the body style. The V10 or the Diesel would be usless to me because i dont tow real heavy loads. The towing capacity for the F250 is over 8000lbs and i dont have anything that weights even close to 4tons that i would pull. My F150 4.6L V8 has a 6200lb towing capacity and i dont even tow over 3000lbs. I just like the idea of manual transmission and the body style. How is the fuel mileage on one of these 5.4L F250's? I was also told that the truck weighed alot more than the F150's. How much more?

My memory is kinda foggy, but I've used a F250, 2wd, auto, supercrew, V10 at my part time job. It is usually used for towing a 32' triple axle trailer that is loaded. I was thinking it got something like 9mpg loaded and 12-13 unloaded. Of course, this is almost exclusively highway or interstate driving. The V10 seems like a good match for the truck, I'm not sure I'd want one with a smaller motor.
The other truck we use is an older F250 ext. cab with the 460 motor. I've never pulled a trailer with it, but it seems to have a lot more low end torque than the V10 does!

Dood... if you don't really intend on using the truck for what it was intended to be used for, don't bother. I am with ya that those trucks look BA and all but eventually, the longer wheelbase will become a PITA to park and the suspension is so damn firm in those that when the higher mileage numbers start to appear, I'd rather take a long drive in a shopping cart than the cockpit of an HD truck. F that. Unless you need it and can justify having one for deeper reasons than "they look cool", I would not do it. As for the V10 (I know you said you don't need one but this is just because it was brought up) we have 5 of them in our fleet, two of them are in Excursion 4x4's and they average 11mpg highway. No bueno.
That's just my $.02- take it for what you find it worth.

What is the 6.2L? A diesel? I dont need or want a diesel. I have a diesel and it is in a 46 hp 3 cylinder David Brown tractor that i use on the farm. Dont need on in a truck.
