Thanks i will look but i have spent since may 16 th when i bought the truck looking at the dash for a rocker type fuel selecter switch but found none yet just a toggle switch that isn't hoooked up to any thing. Let me check ny the heater controls just to say i did.

Damn! You sir are correct and i have a giant case of miopia "Cant see the forest for the trees wow totally embarrassed here. It is in the heater control center on the very right hand side and it reads top to bottom" Front -fuel-rear. so now i know why i can read th front tank and i can now trace the wires from the fuel selector switch back.

You solved the mystery sir. I am sadened how ever as to why the hell couldn't ford tell me this ?. wow i feel dumb and relieved at the same time here, thank you sir i will post my findings here and on the other site you helped me get into and thank you for the extra source of information.

I have gone through the truck completely and the fuel issue was the last issue befor winter. I have changed out most of the vacuum lines because of leaking from just age 32 year old ya know and i have repleced the power steering unit , the altenator, the voltage regulater and at least 8 or nine grounding sites where i sanded down to bare mateal and sanded the connections. I only have two rear tail liught sockets and two head light sockets to sand down at the connectioons and i am ready for winter. I like the old trucks because i did all that my self and a new truck you needd a PHD to open the hood it seems. You made my day sir yup i have to have my eye glass prescription re done i am apparently pretty Magoo ya know thanks again yea!!.

Glad you got a starting point now. I put in aftermarket modern bulb style headlights instead of the sealed beams, also added a heavy duty harness with relays for the headlights. Light output is more than doubled. Great improvement. Got them from lmctruck.com for about 65 bucks total. Maybe 45 minute install.

Well with the help of jazz Daddy i found the elusive fuel selector switch.Actually i must admit it was right under my nose so i must have a bad case of miopia"Can't see the forest for the trees. Any way i found it and determined by putting the wires from the fuel rank rear together that my rear tank sender has failed .

I will trace the wires to the tank from the switch on the dash just in case my rear tank wire has a break or short in it.In either case i can go forward now.I spent the last 2 months chasing vacuum leaks and all vacuum lines are now complete as well as a new voltage regulator a new altenator, new power steering pump and rotor and cap replacement. engine runs like new just a little rich so today i will lean it out some and find the wet spot on the carb.Wet sanded the outside of the bed and primered with self etching primer.

I also found 6 locations on the truck for grounding points and sanded all of them but still looking for more .

The engine runs beautiful after the vacuum leak hunt

The sending units can be a butt to find from local parts stores. I ordered mine from lmctruck.com for around 40 bucks. It includes the unit, o ring gasket, and a new lock plate. Be careful removing the fuel line from the unit. It has a small plastic clip locking them together. You can pop it out with a flat head. If it breaks its near impossible to find.

Thanks for the heads up on the sending unit removal.I am very cautious about removing the tank because of potential explosion.I will take my time.

hey i traced the wires to my dash fuel selector switch and found mt sending unit is bad. Kinda figured this might be part of the problem. This is a good spring of 2015 job.In the mean time i am going to elimate the fuel rail valve with a three way brass fuel selector valve in the cab floor behind the driver seat. This way i am sure during the winter i am actually using the rear tank.

I am not sure if the selecter switch on the dash is actually selecting the rear tank or if the rail mounted selecter switch is actually working. I prefer having manual control of tank selection. THe thing that i like about the old trucks is that you don't need a PHD to open the hood.
