Will this Tranny work???
I have an 84 f150 2wd with a 302 carb setup and a c-6 tranny that is shot. i have a chance to pick up an aode for $100 that works well.
My question is will an AODE work with the set up i have and if so how much trouble would it be to put in my truck???
This is in AODE not an AOD.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

The AODE is an electronically controlled transmission. It is controlled by the ECM, which controls the engine also so it works together to control both. I have only researched the 4L60E (GM electronic 700R4) and it is possible to get a stand alone tranny computer, but it's expensive. I don't know if a stand alone computer is offered for the AODE. My book doesn't even show the F150 as ever having an AODE offered, just the AOD so I don't know how different they are externally.
I have another question for you sean. i have heard that the GM electrionic 700R4 has the ability to be bypassed and have the torque converter automatically lock up. do you know what they mean by that???

There isn't any way to bypass the electronics on the 4L60E. What you might be thinking of is how they wire the torque converter to lock up on the 700R4. Without the proper controls the lock up converter won't lock, but you can wire it to lock. I forget exactly how to do it but something is wired to a toggle to turn it on but must also be wired through the brake switch so it will unlock when you step on the brake.
