Hey guys, new subscriber here with a quick question.
A guy is wanting to sell his 1986 Ford F150 Lariat PU, not running, 300 six cyl and standard trans. It has been sitting for a long long time. I have not physically seen it yet, going to do that at 11am today. I am hoping someone can give me a ballpark figure of what I should be offering. He is asking 2k 1986 Ford Lariet
You would be doing the person a favor by hauling it away for them.
If you feel guilty, give him $500 (the tool box is worth half that)
You'll get that truck home an park it in the weeds until you start making it road worthy by going over the entire vehicle from brakes, brake lines, is the motor stuck. Four replacement tires.
fluid changes, if you can get it running. The wiring that may be chewed by rodents.
It is a project truck to you, the seller probably just wants it off his property.
and im sure some critters have taken up residence in that truck, and they can wreak all kinds of havoc to a vehicle. and with 4 flat tires that frame is closer to the ground, have seen that rot stuff out in the past before. The body doesn't look bad though
Quick follow up. I ran the VIN, it is not a Lariat as originally told, but a basic Ford F150 with see through glass, sit down seats and push pedals and roll up windows. Engine compartment is filled to the hood with rodent doins. It might be worth picking up if the price is right. Will cost $300 to drag it home. Also, it appears to have only 77500 miles on it.

Unless you had something specific in mind -I don't think it not being a Lariat has any merit. It would have done nothing, and still does nothing, for the value of that one.
Play a role of the American Pickers folks ,discuss the cost associated to having to removed from their lot. Now offer $200 plus your $300 transport fee and you're out $200. Owner has an open area to run his riding mower through now. Win/Win.

I completely agree with you, whether or not it is a Lariat means nothing to me. It is the phrase the current owner brings up in conversation, I couldn't care less. The attraction to me is that the truck is original, 1 owner by title, Original AZ license plate of that era , doing a search turns up nothing, not a dent or ding on the body that I have found so far and the fact I want to truck for what it is. Great bones.
I like your American Pickers analogy,. Too bad Frank & Danielle left.
Thank you for taking the time to respond.
It might be a decent sleeper patina project, but it's only worth whatever you & he agree on. It has no intrinsic value because it doesn't run, and its few salvageable parts are not in demand, or already removed & ready to sell.

Scrap price is back up again. A scrap truck around here will bring close to $1000 these days. Insane I know, but that's the market.
$1000 max. Minus that drag off fees. I'd offer no more than $500. Assuming the engine is not locked up. It's worth that in parts alone.
Inspect the under carriage, floor boards and bed carefully. Really give a good inspection of the brake lines! Rusted out brake lines are uber expensive and can be a real PITA to replace! Ask me how I know. I will NEVER buy another old vehicle with rusted out brake lines. It will costs you $300-400 easy to replace them.

Hey everyone, sorry about not being around, in the middle of big house renovation projects. Sadly the owner appears to have gotten cold feet, he is avoiding going to the next step. It appears he wants 2k for it regardless.
Rust? What's that? I live in SE Arizona, we don't have that stuff here

I spent a few weeks outside SV, AZ. I spent a lot of time driving up & down Blacktail Cyn. I once drove up it & then down Huachuca Cyn., and another time I went up Garden Cyn., came down Sunrise Cyn., and got stuck for a few hours. A border patrol agent & local farmer saved my ***.
