What's it worth?
All,
I'm new hear. I am looking at a 1983 F-150 for my daughter. A neighbor has it for sale. It is 2 owner. He bought it 6 years ago wit 42k on it & it now has 49k. It is auto trans, pwr steering, no electric window, no electric door lock & no a/c.
A little rust from early years in Michigan but manageable - otherwise it's pristine.
Here is the pick.
Any help you gan give me on a fair price?

I can't see the picture, and we need some more info.
I had a 83 Regular cab shorty with the XL trim with a 302 2v carb, AOD transmission, 4x2, handling/trailer package, and 3.55 LS axle. Truck went 218k with the original engine and transmission.
It was a great as a DD and did haul a TT (4500 Lb) about 12k miles from Maine to Florida several times.
Check the suspension mounts, cab supports, and the radiator support for rust and seals for leakage. After it was 12 years old I was chasing several electrical gremlins mostly related to bad grounds and corrosion. Frame finally rusted at the transmission cross member.
Its hard to put a value without seeing. Things like 4wd, XLT trim, A/c, alloy wheels, and super cabs add to the value but its still a twenty year old truck. Even with the low miles if its an XL 2wd 302 reg cab long bed it would be worth maybe $2500-2000 in excellent condition.

My neighbor has a book with all classic car/truck values, but I can't remember it for the life of me. Right now I have the chance to buy a 1984 f-250 with the 6.9l 4wd 4 speed granny, standard cab. with 150,000 miles. It is in fair condition with some rust, he wants 650 for it.
I bought a 1985 f-150 flareside with 95XXX miles, a 300 6 cylinder, a 4spd overdrive tranny, 2wd in really good condition for a grand.
If I remember my neighbor's book right it should be worth around 1500 in good drivable condition, and up to 4,900 if it is in show room condition, with 0 miles...
We need more info on the truck, but I would say about 1250 to 2000

I would think in this case a larger engine would not be a good idea with the price of gas. Whatever you end up paying for it, you will have some piece of mind that your daughter is in a big truck. Ask him what he paid for it ad go backwards with a low number and let him haggle you up, then hopefully you'll meet somewhere in the middle.

If it was my child I would prefer the 300 just for its dependability and ease of service, although my daughter and sons liked the 302s in several cars and especially the slightly modded one in my 83 F150.

At this point in time it's worth what ever your willing to pay for it. It's not a classic or antique and has no real blue book value.

right now correct, but I read in multiple magazines that in ten or so years they will be highly sought after. Thats why I bought mine now instead of waiting, that way I will always have it
