new member here i have an 86 f150 and i can't get my tailgate open its been kinda stubborn for awhile now but the other day it stuck after i slammed it dumb question but do i bang the hell out with a hammer or what thanks in advance

 

It is just probably got rust on the contacts, Try soaking it some then apply alittle of force to get it open.

 

Look under the release handle, the little plastic clip holding a rod to the bottom of the handle could be broken.

 

Mines the same way I just hold the handle and then hit it or pull it from the inside

 

My plastic clip also broke and I have to hold it together before lifting handle. Previous owner used hammer making it diff to open.

The door rod clips are available at the dealer and many auto-parts stores for a few dollars. 2 are required.
