Default Stalling at idle

1982 V8 351 dual port carb. It has been progresivly getting worse. It will stall after letting off the gas, stalls at all stop sighns and when turning the wheel. Starts fine. Increased the idle speed to a very fast throttle which allows it to idle without stalling but as soon as I put it in gear or turn the wheel it stalls every time. I have checked the air/smog pump and vacumm lines. The fuel filter was removed and connected to the carb with a hose by the previous owner. The Duraspark II computer was also removed. I am unable to check the trouble codes as I can not access the STI cable without breaking it. My next thought was to remove the carb and clean it. Other than that I do not know what to do. When it starts to stall the brakes start to go do to lack of pressure from the pump, now the break light is on and not going out. The resavoir is full. Please help.

I'm still banking on a vaccuum leak. Take it you have power brakes? If the brake pedal starts getting spongy before you stall your loosimg vacuum to the booster any intake manifold leaks maybe coming from the gaskets?

Yes, I have power brakes. They get very spongy when it starts to stall and almost useless. I asume the intake manifold is the top housing which the carb ataches to on top of the engine. I have a Haynes manual which is very useless. There is a loud hissing sound coming from behind the carb which I have been unable to tack down an there is an obvious fluid leak coming from the gasket on the side of the engine where you access the pistons. There are several hoses that have been detached and pluged. I do not know where they are saposed to reatach. I cannot make heads or tails of the vacume diagram on the hood. I tried reataching them where they seemed to fit and reach but it only made it run worse. I need to have it configured for smog or I would just leave them as they are.

I am going to guess that "dual port carb" is a two bbl carb. As to the Hissing sound it could be the EGR valve or the cross over pipe for the smog pump. As for the vaccuum system component id should help here is a link about the vaccuum https://www.f150forum.com/f13/1983-f...iagram-139702/ Hope this helps

Ok well you've definitly got vacuum leaks hands down. As for the hissing sounds like either the manifold gaskets are bad and yes the manifold is on top of the motor where the carb sits or you've got bad carb gaskets. As for the fluid leaking from the head that sounds like you've got a bad head gaskets as well. I would invest in a subscription to alldata. It's 15 bucks for a year and it will tell you EVERYTHING. It's a hundred times better then haynes. I would start by replaceing the head gaskets because if they go completely bad you can cause a lot of damage a head gaskets set will come with all the gaskets you need and you'll need to take the heads to a machine shop to have them checked out and make sure they're not warped
