Default Split Driveshaft Question

I have a 79 F150 with a split driveshaft and a bad rear u-joint. Took it loose from the axle yoke, but the splined joint at the center bearing slides apart a little and then gets stuck. Does this joint pull apart, or is there some pin or something that I need to pull before it comes apart? I don't want to whack it too hard if it's got a real reason to be held together besides 30 years of hard life.
Thanks!

Your female part of the slip yoke has a dust cap threaded on the end if you screw that off and let dangle on shaft it should slide off.
BUT! if the drive shaft has been run to long with say low on grease then it may be what we call in the business 1/4 splined and maybe hung up on that which you will have to use a little finesse to get apart.
The standard slip movement for that shaft will be 1-3/4 inches for a standard articulation.
All else fails take the whole shaft down and work on it on a bench you will get results then.

Hope this helps.

The suction holds them together sometimes. Also, the splined shaft of the driveshaft is covered in plastic as a protectant and it wears and makes it difficult to pull off.
