Default Reversed Jumpers

What are some possible damage points from reversing the poles on a jumper cable when jumping off a 76? I know it can damage the battery, but what else could it damage?

If its running it could screw up the charging system. By crossing the wires your making the system a 24 volt system in a round about way. Too long you will blow fuses, melt wires, kill alternators.

Could of killed a solenoid, like stated above, fuses could be potentially blown. etc etc. Starters can be fried.

A friend was trying to get my brother's 76 started and he reversed the cables without looking. It never cranked but there was some smoking. My guess was the battery, going to take it to get tested to eliminate its starting issue.

The starter still sounds alright though.

Finally got the new battery, solenoid, and terminal connection. But now there's no energy whatsoever. Turn the key and nothing comes on. Fuses look fine and nothing happens when you hook up a running vehicle. So what's left to check? Ground on the negative?

Ok, one of the wires coming off of the solenoid that runs into the alternator harness is fried in two.

Ok, so here's one of the wires coming off the solenoid and going into the alternator wiring harness. Should we just replace the wire or just replace the whole harness? I'm afraid others may be like this else where.

You can make a temp "jump wire" to see if that is the true cause of the problem, If you feel like there is more wires fried try to find and replace. I would for the meantime just temporary is do the one wire just so it can start and what not. Then down the road replace that part of the harness.

Is the internal fuse not required? Which wire does this look like? All the wires look black, so I can't decipher the wiring harness.
