If you can help me out, I am trying to find a replacement steering wheel for my 1978 F150 pickup. I been told by local mechanics that only a 1978 or 1979 steering wheel will fit without modifications, that a 1977 or earlier or 1980 or later won't work. I have been searching websites and come up empty. Only ones I found online used were already worn. Just rebuilt my 1978 and don't want the steering wheel to distract from all the other work. Any insights/recommendations would be appreciated.

The steering column didn't change until '92 on trucks, so all those wheels will attach to your column. I'm not sure how far back you can go, but certainly '75. They may not be exactly identical, but who's gonna know at this point? You could put a '90 car wheel on, and you'd be the only one to realize it. Find something that fits & looks good - don't worry if it's "correct".
