Default old ford with stearing problems

hey everybody, just joined the site, just got a ford f100 4x4 and i love it.
but the truck is titled as a 1977 all my mechanicly inclined friends and truck guy buddys agree that its a 1974, so my question to any body who cares to reply is, does a 74 and 77 stearing gearbox interchange, cause this thing walks all over the road and needs to be replaced. and is 76 the last year of the f100's in which case it would have to be older than that

F100's were made through the late 80's. I had an 87 F100. Wha tmakes you think its a 74 over a 77?

You may not need to replace the steering gearbox, they are adjustable. Haynes and Chiltons manuals have a section on removing slack from the gearbox.

77 did have round head lights. They started switching over in 78 to the square. The base model bronco and F-series still had round headlights in 78 but moved the blinkers below the headlights in 78. They changed a lot of stuff in 77. The engine series changed half way through 77 from the FE series to the modified series. A way to tell is to check the door jam and see the manufacture date and compare it to the date on the engine tag. If its still there.
