Default Going over my options. AOD vs C6

Ok. 84 F-150 302 and AOD. I am having problems with the Transmission. I had a friend suggest swapping to a C6 so that I could use a vacuum line/Modulator valve and not have to worry about the kick down rod fore the AOD. What would be needed to do the conversion to a C6 or would it almost be a bolt in job?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The C6 was the automatic used in the 84 4x4 trucks. It should be a bolt on. Find a 4x4 automatic C6 donor for any necessary other parts at yer local junk yard........I was just thinking, my 74 FE has a C6 and it has a kick down rod along with the vacuum modulator. Might wanna check that part out.

I was talking to a friend of mine and he thought the rod on a C6 was just a passing gear rod, to where at full throttle, it would drop a gear. If any one else knows for sure or has done this swap, please chime in. I would greatly appreciate it.

I looked at mine this AM and the rod is a kick down for passing gear.

You aught to get an E4OD from a windsor bolt pattern engine. Not the weak AOD (C4 with Electronic Overdrive), and not the old three speed C6, the E4OD (a C6 with Electronic Overdrive) is the best choice.

Find one off an 89 F250/350 or from a 1990- Fseries with an automatic. I realize its a weird cutoff mid cycle...

Ah, but what all would I have to do if I managed to find one to get it working properly? I figure the C6 would be a good bit easier.

Nope, just find a computer from the same truck, or get one programmed for an E4OD, no hassle. If you want to be complete you can also change out that little [ P R N D 1 ] box in your instrument cluster to a [ P R N D OD 1 ] box...

I looked around a bit at the Pull A Part today and saw a few C6's. I found one in an 85 that looks good, however I noticed something that got me thinking. My transmission (AOD) has a plug where 3 wires plug in. On the C6, it has 3 wires going into the hub where the kickdown rod connects. From what I have studied, these are the neutral safety switch and reverse lights. Anyone think it would be possible that I could just clip and splice these wires?
Also, there are 2 wires connecting where the speedometer line hooks up, anyone know what these are?
Any advice would be appreciated.
