Default First Timer - Is it worth it?

Hi,

I am new to this forum, and hopefully new to being a F150 owner. I am going to look at a truck tomorrow. I need a truck for messing around on the farm, but also to get to an from school (about 800 kms a week likely). I am okay with cosmetics being off, and needing minor repairs i can learn on my own. I came across this truck, and I am wondering if it is worth it? what do i need to know or ask?

here is the ad:

1978
F150
185,00 KMS
Automatic Transmission.

"Nice truck, many new front end part, needs little work on box, 351mod motor, duel exst, (trans slips) long box, $ 1,500 or best offer. sell or trade."

thanks in advance or the help!

Looks real clean, jump on it man. They are good trucks, and cheap/easy to fix. That trucks in pretty good shape

Too much for a slipping trans. A rebuild would run you 1200+. Rest of the truck looks decent. Find out more about the trans slip. If i were buying 1100 would be my ceiling. Take the extra 400 for a rebuild kit and torque converter.

thanks for the info guys, i appreciate it.

with the exception of the slipping transmission (which i am not too excited about). what should i look for when I check it out? are there any things i could spot, as an amateur, that should be a huge red flag? aside from the standard rust issues, leaks, and a test drive?

thanks again!

loving this forum. might buy this truck just so i can belong, ahahah

Just look everything over, all the lights cab corners floor boards inside the bed bottom of the doors everything under the front end make sure its all tight. See if anything leaks check fluid levels see if the fluids are clean to see if they've been takin care of it listen to it run and of course test drive
