1986 150 / starter relay? starter?
My wife (really) left the key in the on position for several hours i.e. as far back as it will go without engaging the side release button. I went to start it and I when it turned over and started I hard popping noises. I turned the truck off right away and then attempted to start it again. All I got was clicking like a dead battery and a smoking starter relay. The battery tests good (near 13 volts). Do you think it is just the relay or is my starter fried as well?

update: I replaced the starter relay with no change. Guess that was not the issue. I measured voltage at the starter with my son turning the key to start and it dropped from the 12.75 volts at the battery to a little over 6 volts. I am guessing either bad cable or bad starter. thoughts?
