Default Engine in a '74 F150

I'm considering getting a '74 F150 to fix up for my dad. It's only 300 bucks, so what kind of things should I look for? I haven't seen it in person yet but I do have some pics. Also, he says it has the original motor in it, a 460. That doesn't sound right though.

Very few of them came with a 460 in it, Try to vin it to see what it came with. Try to see if it crankable, Put new gas in it, change oil, what not, Bring a new set of rotors and pin. just the basics. But it looks fairly decent in the photos, just alittle bit of body work and you should be good go.

Thanks for that page. I'll get the VIN and check it against this to see what it is. One thing I've already noticed is that it's not likely an F150. The grill, bumper, and hood (with FORD right on it) look more like a late 60's early 70's model. What do you think? I will know more Saturday, going out too take a look. I want see if I can get it started so I'm planning on bringing a battery at the very least. Hasn't been sitting for too long, less that half a year supposedly. We'll see

Default First Look

Well I didn't get to start it today, but I did get to give a good looking over and I'm pretty happy with it's condition.
Got the VIN - F10YKP41416

So it's an F100, which it says on the side but the pics were too poor to tell. It has a 360 in it and apparently assembled in KC, just an hour away

It had some other info, Model F102, Body D4 and Transmission G.

I took some better pics, I'll post them in a little.

EDIT

I found a website with a VIN decoder - http://www.ford-trucks.com/vin-decoder
I was having trouble figuring out the year, it's a 1972.

The 360 with 2bbl. carb. was quite popular in the years 1971 thru 1975. This engine was used in pick ups only as I recall. They were not very good on gas mileage 14-15 was all you could get out of them.
From the looks of pictures this one had the Ranger package.

thats a pretty sweet looking truck, just needs a paint job and in running condition and you'll have a true classic right there. good luck.

Thanks chelios, it is pretty sweet. I've got it running, and actually since I make a habit to start it once a day it starts on the first push (love that push button start lol). I have the hood painted, and I'm working on getting the rest of the trim removed and painting the rest. It's a lot of work but I haven't invested a lot of money into her, just time, and that's ok with me. I moved over to ford-trucks.com, since it's an F100 but I'll remember to post pics here too once I'm done.
