Default dim dash lights

Working on my 86 f150. the problem im having is the dash lights arent very bright. I've got two of these trucks and one is nearly twice as bright as the other. im curious if anyone has an idea what the problem could be the dimmer does work cause i can make them even more dim but not brighter.

Could be the switch itself the dash lights brighten and dim off a rheostat that’s built into the switch. Or could be some kind of resistance in the wiring cutting the voltage to them

I've been thinkin it could be the switch is messed up and makin to much resistance. I might try switching them out and see if it fixes it. If it does ill buy another one. Thanks for the help. Ill post my results.

the bulbs are clear and they twist into the back of the cluster assembly. behind the gauges where the bulbs come through there are little green domes that i believe are melted on somehow. they appear to be easy to remove. the bulbs are part # pc194. its a 194 bulb with a twist bracket made to the bottom. the pc194 bulbs are available at napa and orilies. autozone and advance have the twist adapters to install regular 194 bulbs. If you can get a hold of enough of the adapters id go that way and order some different color leds of ebay (10 pack of them for less than $5). there are 5 bulbs behind the gauges.
