Question Converting to Electric Fan?

Im about to pull the top end of the motor off to replace blown head gaskets and i am wondering if it would benefit me to go ahead to convert my fan to an electric set up manley bc the mechanical fan is sitting about 5 inches away from the radiator right now and there is already a 2 inch spacer on it. The main concern i have after doing this is will the motor be able to get up to the correct operating tempeture it will need to if i wire it into a switch.

Is your shroud in place on the existing factory fan?

I doubt if an electric fan setup will cool as well as a properly set up and properly working factory setup.

If yours is still set up properly maybe the thermostatic clutch on your fan is bad.

It is a 1981 F150 with a 351 Cleveland and yes the shroud is in place and i do know that the clutch is work for sure i just bought the truck a few weeks back and I'm about to start working on it i got it for $500 with the bad head gaskets but i drove it on and off a trailer and its a solid truck for sure. he put a bigger thermostat in it bc it was reading high bc for some reason i was just wondering bc the fan is a good distance way from the radiator.

Does the shroud go far enough back to atleast cover about half the fan?

Just barely do you think an auxiliary fan would hurt instead of converting it all

I'm not sure how you would install an auxiliary fan and still leave the original fan setup in place, except to mount it in front of the radiator and I don't think it would help much. Just my opinion.

Bigger thermostat? Is that a lower temperature one? When was the radiator and cap checked? Is it possible someone, at some time in the past, changed the radiator to a smaller one?

Just throwing out some Ideas.
Hope they help.

the guy told me that the truck is a Colorado edition the truck is a F150 but it is on a 3/4 ton chassis he did point out to me that it does have a bigger radiator than factory and that the motor has a little bit bigger cam in it from ford.
