This would be the right place to post your questions.
Only the 5.0 (302) was FI beginning sometime in '85. Not sure when the other engines began EFI but it was not in '86.
For electrical issues the first thing I would check is the grounds. Follow the black (-) battery cable to the engine block.
Then there should be another smaller grounding wire at the back of the engine going into a harness which goes through the firewall into the dash area.
As a quick test get a jumper cable and connect the (-) batt. terminal to the engine block and see if things improve.

Sounds like you have a major short check all the main leads going to the starter and alternator make sure they are not bad and tight not touching anything that will short it out. Make sure all your grounds are nice and tight with heavy enough gauge of wire. I am sure that all your problems are shorts probably with the ground. The ground is more important than the positive and they started fuel injection in 1987. The best years to get are from a 84-86. They made them more electrical in 84 and most engines went fuel injection in 87 except the 5.0 was in 86 I believe was the first year for the trucks.

Good feedback! Glad I can have a reference to come back to.
