Carb upgrade questions
So Im going to upgrade my intake system here in a little bit and am looking for inside information.
I drive a 1982 f150 Inline 6 with the single Barrel carb made by Motorcraft. Needless to say not enough power. I've already simplified the vac system so its good to go for another carb. Also its the really simple 1bbl with the metal choke thing. I forgot what its called. The coil one that expands to shut off the choke
I wanna get a 2BBL carb and keep it simple. I've been looking around and All i can reaaally find is Edlebrock and Holley, mostly 4 BBL. I'm curious to know what 2BBL carbs will work with my engine, and if I need to replace the intake manifold to fit the new carb. Thats one bit of info I cannot find! I havent seen new performace intake manifolds that'll fit a 2bbl. Does that mean I just need an adapter plate? Thatd be awesome. And whatever carb I get I need a new air filter thats compatable as well
So what I'm really asking is, Has anyone done a 2BBL carb set up on these torque monsters and had been satisfied with their results? If so, what set up did you purchase? And if remembered, what was the price?
Thanks a million guys

I have the same prob. I have a 1983 f150 300I6 and am thinkin of upgrading the carb to a 2 bbl. Lemme know if you get any response! What other upgrades have you done? I just bought this truck, been sittin a while and needs work everywhere.
This is my first truck project. I usually do motorcycles... But yeah same truck.
I mean Max Rpms for a stock engine is 3k redline.. Which blows.. But the torque in the babies are unbeleiveable. So I was looking at a 2bbl 500cfm "replacement" Street Avenger carb from Holley. $260 And I think all you need is an adapter plate to fit the stock manifold for that one. I think! I'm still researching.
Or they have a 4 bbl Street avenger thats 470cfms thats MADE for low end torque and acceleration that about $400 and would require a new manifold.
Soooo.... Hmmm...
Then I've been reading that headers decrease the low end torque on these bad boys as well as larger diameter tailpipes. Not sure how much truth is to that
So yeah same boat as you! Looking for some feedback
