newbie need help
hey guys i am greener than green to this site but have always loved classic fords. my dad has had many classic ford including our race truck, a 75 ford f-250 highboy with a built 428CJ that we have used and abused and it will not die. i love 4x4s and going wheelin but am looking to build a 2 wheel drive street truck and what i have found is a 1974 f-100 ranger xlt with a 460 and an automatic. the truck is a very good starting point as far as i can tell and the guy is asking $995 for it. i am going to try and talk him down to about 750 if possible but before i do i would like some input on the truck i dont know how to post pics but the only prominent rust is over the left rear wheel well, there is also a little bit of rust on the right rear fender as well as some starting on cab mount as well as rad support. i am 16 and this would be my first truck/project. the 460 is said to have a recent rebuild and dove heads. any input would be greatly appreciated.

Only thing I can suggest to you when buying any old truck to to crawl under and have a look. If it has some rust in the aeras that you are talking about then it may have some in the floor pans. Also just remember that if it is rusty looking doesnt mean it is plum ate up yet. The best way to tell is to tap it (on the bottom or owner may get pissed) with a but of a screw driver or a box end wrench. I would suggest you make certain that the truck will start and run enough to get it home, unless you are looking for a "PROJECT" then that is up to you. Also be sure to look at the fron and rear frame rails if they look to be bent where they shoould be straight then the truck has been hit pretty hard. As far as the 995.00 price tag I dont know about up there but down here in texas you would be stealing that truck. Anyhow hope this helps and good luck.
