The Bi-Metallic spring in the Auto Choke Housing becomes weakened over time due to heat. Over time, folks try to adjust it, to compensate for the spring failure. It may work for a while but eventually the spring will just give out. In My opinion, having hands-on control of the choke is invaluable especially during the winter months. A well tuned carb with a manual choke is indispensable.

It's funny because I recommend the manual choke to everybody and have been too lazy to take my own advice being busy with home remodeling and what not. But you seem so pumped up about it that I think I'm going to convert mine over within the next week or so.
