Default 84 Ignition upgrades

Has anyone converted to a msd 6al or similar cdi box on their 84-86 302-351? Looks like a pretty straight forward swap other than neither of my manuals show me how to tell the difference between the duraspark II or III. Or where the ballist resistor is

Well It's all done. She starts right up and runs GOOD! I opened up my plus to 055" an jetted it up 8 percent rich. Improved takeoff power and crispness. Improved economy and no more raw fuel smell. Pics soon to follow. Shoot me a pm if you are considering this upgrade. It has been well worth the investment

Default Sent you a PM

Interested in the MSD install, photos would be great. I too have an '84 302 with rich running.

My plugs, wires etc are all new and it starts/stops fine but just has a
lot of unburnt fuel.

Am waiting for my rebuilt 2150 2 bbl to arrive and hopefully that will cure
the rich mixture.

I sent you a pm, but i'm not sure if it went through. Your replacemnet wires will cripple this system and will most likely need to be upgraded. I was also instructed to use the MSD cap and rotor due to the oversized termnals and special coating. Sales pitch or not its cheap insurance when converting your ignition to a CDI unit

Ok here are the few pics i have of the install. Wire are still long and need to be wrapped and loomed. I will get to that as soon as i find some more wire loom. I seem to have bought it all in my area
