Default Removing spindle

I'm trying to remove the spindle from a 1980 4.9l. I've removed the grease caps and the pin/bolt and the book I have says to just hit the spindle pin up from the bottom... I've tried with a maul and old socket and it will not budge. Is there something I'm missing

Get a bfh and hit the spindle/knuckle itself not the ball joint.....you removed both the bolt on the upper and the nut on the bottom right?

if all else fails a picklefork should work but will ruin your bj seals.

No ball joint on it , earlier model so it just looks like a door hinge. Either way your prob right I'm just gonna have to hit it with a bigger hammer

You might try a little heat and/or a penetrating oil soak overnight. It's probably stuck in the beam's bore rather than the spindle's so I'd try heating the beam.

Finally got it out... Now another problem, at various auto part stores they only seem to have a kingpin that's smaller than the one I pulled out and it's got nylon or metal sleeves... What is this about?

Are you positive it's the right part? Are the sleeves nylon or metal and are they over-sized to compensate for the smaller pins? One more thing...are you taking the old ones into the stores to compare? I'm not sure what's going on but it would seem to me that they aren't matching it with the correct part.
