Default 84 f150 - failed emissions

went to take emissions test today. Here in tn they do a smog test looking at hc co & co2
as I pulled up I was 6 deep. So turned her off and sat. Once I went to restart I couldn’t get it started, due to it being flooded. Have the 302 w 4 barrel carb, and efi.

Once i I got it started I let it run about 10 minutes. Went theough testing and failed.

Heres the numbers:
hc - 239 ppm. Needs to be under 220
co - 8.59 - way over as it needs to be 1.2
co2 - 8.99

From what it looks like, it has the original catalytic converter on it. Thinking I should replace and retest.

Anyone have any better recommendations before I replace the catalytic converter

I climbed under tonight. Noticed there isn’t a muffler. Exhaust goes from heads to cat to 2 tails. no o2 sensor near the cat

ive acquired this truck about 3 weeks ago and am new to the carb vehicles

You're guessing blindly. Either diagnose it, or pay someone to diagnose it. But the biggest problem is that you turned it off. It needs to run continuously at least 30 min before the test.

We won't be able to help you much without a LOT more detail about the truck, and we need to be able to review them all with every reply, so it needs to be in your signature.. It can't have a 4bbl carb AND EFI. Whatever it has, we need to know the history, maintenance, damage, repairs, mods, and any missing parts (like the muffler, but also vacuum lines & components). Lots of photos of the engine bay (all around, and underneath) would help. Click this, & read the caption:
