83 F150 project
What's up guys? My girlfriend has been helping me a lot on my classic Chevy projects and decided she wanted a project of her own to work on. Her father gave her an old '83 F150 2wd truck with the L6 to get her started. She loves the truck to death and wants to overhaul it like I've been doing with my old cars.
Bad news is the truck wasn't running when she got it...the good news is it only took me 5 minutes to fix that problem
Turned out it had a bad ignition control module and the damn thing fired up like cake once I replaced it. Not bad for 4 year old oil and gas lol. It smelled horribly as expected but it ran great. It did idle a tinyyyy bit rough so I ran some STP engine cleaner through it, let it idle for a while, and put in fresh oil. Once I started her back up the smell was gone and it ran PERFECT. I let it idle some more to burn up all the old gas but it was late so we turned it off and called it a night.
The next day I went back to burn off the rest and she ran like utter ****. Tons of smoking with horrible smells. I figured the fuel system just needed some cleaning but I didn't have anything on me at the time to do it. Instead I disconnected the fuel line from the fuel pump and ran a line straight into a tank of new gas but it was no different.
Why the heck would it suddenly act up like that after running so great the night before? I'm leaning towards the carb being dirty and in need of a cleaning and rebuild but I'd like some input before I tear into it only to find out that wasn't the problem.
We also have a fuel injected motor from an 86 complete with manifold, rails, and injectors. Would that whole system bolt right up or is there something like a computer that they came with that I'd need?
Sorry for the long post guys but I wanted to give as much info as possible in hopes that I'd get a good answer. Any advice/input would be greatly appreciated! I'll try to take plenty of pics and put together a nice build thread for you all.

i have a 85 with the straight 6, mine sat since 05 and it started up, drove it home changed oil, went to start it and same exact thing, ran like crap i took it down the road and stepped it to the floor, seemed to solve the problem, but idk about yours, could try cleaning the carb-
That sucks...it's the same set up on my girlfriend's. It's such crap! We're going to drop the fuel injected set up in there sometime soon. Do you know if I need anything special for it? ECU or anything?

That is one solid truck! I plan on rodding my 85 out, but it is a flareside 2wd. I will keep everything ford, it will just be modded a bit. I want to start it this spring. Keep us updated on your build!
