Default 77 ford pushbutton start

hey guys/gals,
I am wanting to do a push button start on my 77 f150 I live in a small town and am not at all worried about my truck getting stollen but i cant seem to figure out the wiring situation for my vehicle. another wierd thing is that it has a fuel tank right behind the seat and i can not find a spare tank to fit there also what type of truck had this? someone please help me as i have lost the keys and its killing me to finally get this thing running again. it has a 400m highly modified with almost 13:1 comp ratio and alot of porting and polishing with headers and a 32 inch exhaust system thanks for your help! also this truck is 4wd but i dont thing that matters.

is the tank considered a side mounting tank or an in-cab tank?

Several options:

You could go and try to find a key. Find 3 or 4 people with the same vintage truck and likely one those keys will work.

A locksmith or AAA or equivalent tower might have a ring of keys and be able to find one that works and make a copy of it.

Some ignition locks have a code number printed or stamped on them that you can take to a dealer and have a key made. (Have your title and registration in hand).

If key can't be found then you will need min. 2 switches. 1 toggle ON/OFF switch to power the ignition etc. and a push button switch for the starter.
Is there a steering wheel lock?

Another option would be to get a generic starter switch with key. This would give all 3 modes in one device: ACC/ON/START
Here is an example intended for a motorcycle but would probably work:

Click Home and search for [ignition switch]

Can't help much more unless you can provide a wiring diagram scan or link.

The behind seat tank could be from a 72 and prior vintage truck. That was standard in those days. No help from me on the push button start, bad idea!

this sounds like a cab swap was in it's past. 77's didn't have tanks in the cab.

Thumbs up

ok sry all i was out of town for some time but just got back. Ok what i did yesterday was go to oreilies and got a new lock cylinder for 20 bucks fit perfect after drilling out the old one. I asked the guy that i work with where the tank came from cause i have been looking everywhere for one and can not find one and he said it was in the truck when he purchased the vehicle from the owner before him so im not sure where it came from. i think some fuel was left in it and i know the truck has been sitting for the last 2-3 years. poured some marvles down the plug shoots and let it sit for a few days then cleaned it all out and changed the oil and carb new gas from a suspended temp tank to new carb and it fired right off. runs like a champ. just having to run premium fuel in it with the compression at a lil over 12:1 it has a c6 in it and i am thinking about shift kitting it any ideas? also was wondering what i should do to the trans since it sat up so long if anything?
thanks for yalls help and look forward to hearing from all yall

ok the 77 was the last year modle for the in cab tank after that year they were made illegal due to the possibility of the vehicle tipping over and grinding the cap off these tanks were installed in the highboy trucks and as i found out my truck use to have a HUGE ungodly thing hangin on the back of it. i thing they called it a camper at one time. but anyways here is a link to a post here about it http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/86...fuel-tank.html i hope its ok for me to post the link if not then mods will you please delete it or i can if there is a prob. also pictures of a truck that looks just like mine minus camper
