I have a 1979 F-150 Shortbox. I am currently mapping out everything that I want to do to it, but am having a hard time deciding what the best motor is to put in the truck. It currently has a 351m with a C6 tranny. Everything runs ok, but does need some work. There are just so many options so I want some opinions on what you all think. I just want to make this truck a bad *****, go anywhere truck. Thanks

 

429 for sure!! mI had a 1978 F150 4x4, swapped out the tired 351M with a 1969 Thunderjet 4 valve 429. That truck was born again!

 

429 for hp, gas milage if u drive it everyday.. 5.0, sorry thats the way i think, 429 is a beastly thing though

 

5.9 cummins with twin turbos
stupid amounts of torque and power and great milage

If you're going big and bad then you have to go big and bad under the hood. I think you need a 460 beast under that hood. Go big or go home.
