Default 460 swap into a 1979 f150 supercab 4x4

I am new to the forum!! Please help me as it has been years since I owned my last 1979 f150!! Currently the truck has a tired 351m with a c6 auto. I am looking to drop in a 460 and am familiar with the motor mount swap conversion. I am looking at a 1997 460 engine.... Will my old c6 bolt right up to the newer 460? Also, are the motor mount conversions the same? Will headers and a carb intake be available for this conversion as well?? I am not afraid to fabricate if needed. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

All 460 have the same bellhousing mounts and spacing for the motor mounts. You might want to change the intake to a carbed setup. If you plan on opening the motor change out the pistons to some smaller dish or flattop pistons. If you get the intake with the same style ports as your heads you will not have any problems mounting them up. Using the c6 will be easier than finding a good flywheel for a manual transmission.

According to my books the M and C blocks have the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the 385, 429 and 460, series. You will most likely need the accessory brackets and oil filter housing for the 460 truck blocks, along with the motor and frame mounts. The frame mounts will unbolt and you can switch to the 460 mounts without modification to the frame.

www.broncograveyard.com has an entire section on 460 swap parts, that could be somewhere to start

Hate to tell you guys, If you take out the 351m and try to put in a 460, yes the bell will bolt up, but the 460 needs a 164 tooth flywheel, the 351 takes a 157 tooth. and they are not interchangeable. I know this because im doing it right now. My question is , does anybody make a 157 tooth flex plate for a 460?

If you are looking for custom engine and transmisson mounts check out autofab.com They build all types of heavy duty brackets in addition to all of his other race truck equipment. I purchased a lift kit for my 1968 F250 and it is awesome, John is a great guy.
