As you are asking what engine you have, here are other options, a 302 or 351W, and last but not least a 460. Get back to us with more particulars. There were 5 V-8 options in 1978. Repeat, 302 or 351W, 351M or 400, and of course the 460, (prior vintage 429).

Count the valve cover bolts.
That will tell you what engine family
Then if your for sure it's the fe then measure stroke or look at the crankshaft to see which ci it is.
