Default 351 swap to a 360 question

I have a '77 F150 with a 351m and recently the engine give out. I was thinking about replacing it with a 360 (big block), would the bolt pattern match up with my current transmission (4 speed manual)?

I think a 351m is a small block right? If so the answer is no. You would need atleast a different bellhousing/clutch, maybe a new input shaft. May even need a drive shaft.

A 302 or a 300-6 would drop in and bolt right up though.

351M was a big block, (same block as the 400, just stroked differently). 351C was big block designed also. 351w was the small block bolt pattern design.

I would imagine it would bolt up. I am not certain and have never looked into it. But it should since they are both big blocks

Youre gonna have to change your bell housing, the 400 has the same bolt pattern as a 460. Fe motors are different and i honestly wouldnt put a 360 in it if i was you unless you rebuild it, they are way underpowered i wasnt happy with mine till i built it up

The 351m and 400 are actually small blocks with a taller deck and with a big block transmission bolt pattern. Ill post a link if i can figure out how too lol.

Thats right! I forgot about the differences between the FE motors and regular big blocks!, I was just thinking about BBF in general

LOL I was talking about the 351M and 400 having the Big Block bolt pattern, not them actually being a big block. But you are right on most ppl thinking the 351M and 400 are BBF
