ok i have a 4.9l straight 6. i just bought the truck and the compression is bad. and ive wanted to put a v8 in it. just wondering if the trans will bolt up to a 302 and if the trans is strong enough for a 302. i dont know what tranny is in it sorry. please let me know asap i need to get this truck on the road

It will bolt up as long as you don't use a 460 D:
And yes, the tranny will hold up as all the same transmissions were used behind the 300,302 and 351

^^ yes same transmission. It will bolt right up. No problem.

dont waste your time with a 302 put in a 351w. thats what i did with mine, i have one of few 1986 351 port fuel injections 100% custom swap, it was a pita but well worth it
