Default 1985 ford f150 starting problem

Ok. I need some help from ya old ford lovers. I have a 1985 ford f150 with 351w, but the last owner switched out engine for 302. The fuel pumps do not work but there is a electronic fuel transfer pump at front to direct gas to carburetor. Now when I turn the key, the pump is on continuously spotting gas to carb. Ok. Now here's the problem. When I turn key; the truck cranks but does not start. I've put a new ignition coil. And i just started the truck a few days ago, so I know it's capable of starting. I'm thinking maybe I should install a new fuel pump? Any suggestions.?

Is it single or dual tank?

My first suggestion is pull the fuel line at the carb (when engine is cold), put fuel line in a container and crank the engine a few times and see if you're getting any fuel out of the line.

I'm not ultra familiar with '85 specifically, but if it originally had a mechanical fuel pump, you should go back to it. A carb doesn't require much pressure and they don't fail nearly as much as these electronic pumps.
