Default 1977 model year

Hi all, I've been in the market for a classic from either the 1970s or late 1960s. My understanding is that the engines from before 1972 weren't subjected to the power killing smog/emissions controls. However, I really like the style of the late 70's models. According to my research, 1977 was the last year of the round headlights and the in grill lettering, so that's my target model.

If anyone has any insights on any issues, I should be on the lookout for with this model year or and overall advice, I'd greatly appreciate it.

There's one I'm looking at that has the 351M engine, 4WD, Detroit 4.10, auto, mint frame, but needs a bit of body work..asking price is $3,800.

The prices up North are higher than down South. If it's not completely rusted out, trashed, or mechanically broken it might be worth it.
