1976 F150 Ranger XLT 4X4 NP205 HOT
My NP205 transfer case is hot to the touch after driving in 2 wheel hi for 30 miles, not towing, empty bed, and moderate outside air temp. It is in a 1976, F-150, Ranger XLT, 4x4, 300 ci in line, with a 4 speed transmission, running 80-90 wt gear oil. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

How old is the oil, and what do you do with the truck? Do you ever ford water deeper than the wheel hubs? What's the truck's maintenance history? Have you ever noticed this symptom before? Are you sure it's not always like this? Get a non-contact IR thermometer, and get an actual temperature.
