Default Is the stowable shifter a standard option?

When I ordered my 2021 Lariat 301A, I didn't get the option for foldout workstation.
But to my surprise, my Lariat does have a stowable shifter, but without the foldout work station.
Is this stowable shifter a standard thing for Lariat? Now since I have it, maybe I should replace the big fat console storage top cover to a fold out cover.

I have it in my package and also did not get the workstation. I don't use the stowing capability, but it provides another spot to throw a water bottle or something. I have not tried to see what happens if something is in the way and the button is pushed to stow the shifter..

Yeah that is my concern too, I am afraid if some thing fall in the spot and shifter starts folding down, it would crack something or break the shifter.

I can confirm that it will just bring itself back up with no damage or concern (I left the fob there when testing folding it down when I first got it - oops!)

Everyone with a console has that shifter just because it’s cheaper for Ford to make one shifter for all than to just put the folding one in certain models.
It’s just a gimmick to sell trucks because it gets people talking about it.
No harm will be done if you accidentally fold the shifter on something. It’ll pop right back.
You should be a lot more worried about spilling liquid on it.

If your stopped and the truck is in drive, when you open the door the shifter will move to park.

I have the work station, but normally do not put the shifter down as the hole is a perfect spot to hold my badge/lanyard for work..

Just curious... I have ordered the folding work surface option. Is it possible to drive with the shifter folded in and work surface out?

No. The shifter only folds down when in Park.
