No worries here, AZPlat. Overall my new truck has exceeded my expectations, and every time I drive it I discover something new. Eleven years of refinement since my 2010 - most of it for the better.
The mods to the seat can't be TOO bad, because it still works reasonably well, although I do recall thinking it seemed to be much weaker than my 2010. Now I know why.
Two more questions.
So it appears fan noise I hear is for sucking air into the perforations, however slightly - does it just exit under the seat somewhere?
It also seems that the AC cooling on my 2021 is not nearly as strong as on the 2010. Any idea if that is the case?

Ventilated Seats Better for 2021?
For those that own a 2021 and have owned many previous generation F-150’s, are the “ventilated” seats any better with this new truck?!?
*For anyone wondering what I’m talking about, in 2015 Ford redesigned the cooled seats (which inadvertently resulted in the seats blowing hot air into your back/bottom). Had to do with insufficient ducting for the heat exchanger in the rear of the seat. Temporary fix for my 2015 was installation of a duct in the back of the seat to move hot air away from heat exchanger intake. It worked ok.
When I got my 2018, I discovered they did away with any attempt at cooling the air or blowing it up into the seat, instead reversing the flow so the fan now just sucks air into the seat. Problem is you get zero airflow where your body presses firmly into the seat (at least for us 225+ guys) and the only cooled parts of leather are where you’re not touching it.
2015-2020 F-150 seats were a night & day difference between the GM cooled seats used for the last decade… and not in a good way!
I’m still buying a 2021 regardless just hoping, now that Ford made a generational change, they went back to using the heat exchanger / blow method so the seats actually blow cold air again.

They will never blow cold air, as they are still just ventilated and not cooled.
That said, I feel like they work at about the same level as my 2019 did. I feel there is more air flow on the seat than back. I am glad I have them, but it definitely isn't as nice as it could be.

Lean forward to separate your back from the seat for just a couple seconds after you've been sitting a bit.
I didn't think my ventilated seats made much different, really (got the truck in summer 2019). Then I sat in my wife's car with regular old fashion leather and was like...why is my back sweaty? Oh. Yeah. I don't really notice the ventilated much in my truck but I also do not get sweaty where I otherwise would...and I notice it missing when I get into a car without it.

Also on my 2019 I can recall in extremely humid weather the humidity condensing to moisture on the seat surface. This means they are cooled not just ventilated .
it takes a few minutes to feel the cooling function but they are defnetly cooled, and not just ventilated

if the seats are only ventilated and not cooled then explain why if I drive my 2021 truck with the AC off but had the cool seat function on the seat surface actually feels cold.

Ford’s ventilated seats simply suck in air, creating an airflow which removes some heat from the leather. Problem is it does a very poor job of removing heat where your body blocks the tiny holes.
Think of it like a desk fan: blowing in your face can cool you but the fan isn’t actually cooling the air below ambient temps - its simply moving it faster across the surface of your face, increase the amount of heat that can be removed from your skin.
True cooled seats have a powered heat exchanger which chills the air first then blows that colder air through the seat from beneath the leather. Good cooled seats make your butt almost feel wet at first bc they’re so good at pulling the heat out the leather. In my old Denali, I’d have to turn them off on long trips bc they’d make me cold despite it being hot outside.
If you tried the seats in a high-end Chevy/GMC truck, you’d feel the difference and wish Fords were truly cooled.

LOL BC...... Yes in the "Cooled Seats" prior to 2015 they indeed used a TED to expel cooled/conditioned air through the perforations..... as thy still did 2015-2018.... although the latter design got honked up when they slimmed the seats in 2015 to save weight etc.... they "updated" the pre-2015 design but removed both the intake and exhaust ducts from the TEDs and had to replace the intake duct (aka the sock) as part of the TSB and later production changes.
IMHO the pre-2015 seats functioned better ( I had both a 2011 and 2013) but if you installed the SeatGuru product by Tim W. he provided both an intake and exhaust duct to optimize the 2015-2018 seat performance.
In 2019 they dropped the TEDs entirely in favor of conventional "Ventilated" seats using heating pads for heating and airflow sucked into the seats to give the sensation of "cooling"..... as other manufacturers do on their ventilated seats....
