Default Is Vinyl Final?

So, I am ordering a 2022 F150 XL. About the only options I am getting is the 5.0 engine, towing package, 4X4 and spray in liner. This is a work truck. My question is for heavy duty use (dirty jeans and greasy shirts) how does the vinyl hold up? Personally I know the cloth will be more comfortable in the winter and summer but for durability can anyone give me some advice. Also, anything you can give me some advice on ordering (like upgrading the rear end).

Thanks

I think good seat covers will be the answer. Vinyl will be scorching hot in summer and cold in summer unless its covered. Something like the Carhardt are heavy duty and washable. For a work truck, I like the more generic fit ones because you can take them off and put them back on easily to clean. Some of the custom covers can be a little difficult to put on on a regular basis.

I'm sure vinyl would be easier to wipe down than cloth. I remember an old Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers radio show where they said that leather was much easier to clean than cloth and also held up better to heavy use. I'd imagine vinyl would be similar.

Have owned lot of vehicles with vinyl seat, slippery damn things. Fabric holds ya in better, if worried about dirt/stains seat covers work well. KM

I had an XLT with cloth seats I used as a work truck. I kept a heavy beach towel draped over the seat. It worked well, stayed in place and I pulled it out when needed and washed it.

I have a 2007 XL with vinyl floor and seats. The floor has held up very well.

160,000 miles of sitting has caused some minor cracking in the seat of the driver’s seat, but not enough to really cause an issue.

It is also much easier to clean. Keep a jar of those Armor-All cleaning wipes in the center seat storage and that will be all you will ever need. You could probably even use some of those Clorox disinfectant wipes every now and then.

The last truck I owned with cloth seats was years ago. I put cheap covers on them and when I sold it years later, I took the covers off. They looked brand new

My Dad had an auto upholstery shop for 25 years. We had people come in that wanted us to make heavy vinyl covers for their new trucks (garbage trucks, dump trucks, service trucks, etc) that wouldn't wear out. We even put covers over a brand new Buick Electra 225 that a guy was using as a security watchman vehicle that he was getting in and out many times a day. Just made of heavy gauge vinyl simply made with no pleats or buttons to eliminate rip areas. We actually hog ringed them right over factory covers. Wore like iron. The day you are ready to sell truck, just take out hog rings and strip off top cover and just like new again.

I've got the vinyl 40/20/40 in my '21 XL and it's just fine. The seats have good bolsters that hold you in, instead of sliding around on a bench seat. The vinyl material they used seems pretty good. It's more of a matte finish than the old school shiny/slick vinyl.

The vinyl seats are good and comfy, no complaints there. The vinyl is the most basic of the seat options. The cloth 40/20/40 seats have a storage compartment in the armrest between the seats that the vinyl version lacks. Also there are no map pockets on the backs of the vinyl seats.

I did order a set of Marathon seat covers though.

I have vinal in my XL and its surprisingly comfortable. In the colder temps I have been remote starting it 5+ minutes before I leave, and the seats are not cold. I thought for sure I was going to get seat covers. I am definitely not going to get covers now.
