Upgrading inverter?
I was happy to see a 110 outlet in the bed of my new truck, until i started researching how little power output it has.
My dream was to be able to run an electric chainsaw , for camp wood kind of thing
Anyone upgraded theirs? or is it even possible. If im calculating right, i have a little over 3 amps available now, but would need 10 minimum probably more , so upgrading from 400 to 1200 or even more if its possible
I have no idea of if the gauge of wire used in the truck is big enough to handle any more.
I'd almost rather have the ridges on the bed like the other side to put a 1"by in for a bed divider at this point.

You could have gotten the 2kW inverter from the factory. Adding the factory unit after the fact is probably going to be costly if it can be done at all. I'd follow the other advice and just get a cordless chainsaw and use the 400W receptacle to charge your batteries.
My DeWalt charger needs 3A and doubt that would run on 400W inverter.
I see lot of trucks on lots with 400W option. Seems it's just to get attention and I don't really see how it would be useful. I can also say in my life I've never needed an outlet in the bed but I see the appeal for camping without local power.

Just an idea, if you have the 7 pin trailer outlet there is a 30 amp trailer battery charge supply in the 7 pin. Get an inverter that will work under the 30 amps and put a short pigtail on it and plug it in the 7 pin when you want to use it. Not as clean as built in but way easier than a retrofit

maybe i should have titled it "has anyone found use for their 400w bed outlet" , hopefully something useful.

The 400W inverter is really only for small electronics and nothing more. They do have the 2kW system as an option for non-hybrid trucks.
The output is 120 not 12v. I did a quick search and found a 1200w inverter that calls for a 20 amp fuse
