Default Try this on coloum shift.

First put your brain in gear. Start the truck. Put in drive. Open driver’s door..watch the gear lever.

Not new, all trucks do it, column or console shifter. It will also shift to park if you shut the truck off in gear.

My 2020 column shift does none of this. I can drive around with the door open. Is this something new for 2021?

Yep, the 2021 has a 'return to park feature'.

Several months ago there were a few threads confusing non 2021 owners!

I see! Just when I thought these trucks were already overburdened with nannies, now the column shifter can move around on its own? When will it end!

Maybe I'm not alone in the thought that there's too much tech in trucks nowadays. I want to drive the truck, not have it drive me. I love being able to open the door it back into a tight place, but it beeps and dings the entire time which drives me nuts.

Oh, you are not alone! While I appreciate modern mechanicals, I don't want my truck doing anything that I don't tell it to do. I do not want it to think for me. It's a machine, and it is to do only what I tell it to do!

Amen! The whole lane keeping/centering/intelligent cruise/Bluedrive or whatever it's called, it's too much. That's part of why these things cost so much now too. And when something breaks it'll be in the $1000s to fix.

Yup another "save me" from stupidity feature.
I still remember first time I tried backing my wife's Jeep up with door open.....wondered why I was stuck.lol....automatically put parking brake on.....dumb.
So after it auto shifts to park....while keeping door open can you put it back in reverse to back up??

I'm curious about this also. Can you put it back in drive in 4L with the door open? Needed for things like repairing fence lines or loading hay.
