Trip meter resets randomly
My 22 F-150 has been having the same issue where both Trip 1 and Trip 2 reset MPG and mls digital readouts. I finally read on a forum here where you could update some module (I think it was APHIS?). Anyway I took my truck and had some firmware update and it fixed it for about 3-4 months. I went on a trip last week (130 miles each way) and coming back stopped to eat and when I got in, the MPG and mls readouts were both reset to 0. It’s aggravating and somebody is going to fix this. I routinely reset both trips every time I fill up to just keep track of different mileages. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

yeah, welcome to the club. i guess 3-4 months is better than what we've experienced. take it back to the dealer again. my 22 F150 has had a few electrical problems so far. i also reset my trips every time i fill up to track mpg. the built-in mpg calculator isn't very precise.
I don't suffer random resets. But notice the trip meter is limited to 9999 miles. Then goes to zero.m

so i took it back to the dealer and talked to the actual tech there. explained everything and showed him in person what's going on. took them about a week to get it done. he said they reprogrammed the entire truck per their convo with ford. i don't know what exactly the reprogramming involved, but that's what they told me. that seemed to have alleviated the problem, but i only had the truck back for a couple weeks until i had to take it in for something else and my truck has been at the dealer for over a month now, so i haven't driven it much to test out if the issue comes back or not.
*** 12v Battery under rear passenger seat ***
A lot of people don't even know it's back there, or what it's purpose is....hopefully this helps.
The 12v 7.5ah auxiliary battery is used to power the modules during start-up, it isolates from the main battery during this time.
And surprisingly, even with the main battery under the hood DISCONNECTED, the truck can still start and drive...😳 ...so keep that in mind if you are working on your truck and for whatever reason you need to disconnect the main battery DON'T FORGET that you also need to disconnect the Auxiliary battery to completely kill all power.
Daily, there are posts from people who get intermittent warnings coming up on their dash, about "Low Battery" or "Sleep Mode", most times this is from the Auxiliary battery being low on charge, whether due to the truck sitting for awhile, colder temperatures, or having a large draw on the electrical system prior to shutting the truck off(Heat, A/C, etc), and the battery hadn't had enough time to recharge itself before you shut the truck off.
Sometimes people have gotten a warning, and it "self corrects" while driving or after a key cycle, or it never happens again...it was just a one time event where the battery had fallen just low enough to trigger the computer warning..
Because this Auxiliary battery powers the modules on start-up, if the battery is just low enough, it will cause some systems to reset....such as the "Window Bounce Back" safety feature.
This happens to me every time I drive my truck, because sometimes I may go weeks without driving my Powerboost....soooo...I have to rerereredo the "Bounce Back" reset, because I have In-Channel rain visors in my windows...every...damn....time....😆
I finally got tired of doing the reset sequence.
Today I bought a larger 12v AGM Auxiliary battery and installed it...
The stock Auxiliary battery is 12v 7.5ah, I replaced it with a 12v 14ah battery, nearly double the amp hour rating of the stock Aux battery..
The only minor modifications needed to make it fit...the red circled areas I just trimmed the plastic on the battery compartment and a tiny bit on the new battery, everything fit perfectly otherwise, even the battery strap, you just have to loosen both sides to get the new battery in, then tighten the strap back down enough to hold the thicker battery.
We'll see if this fixes my "Window Bounce Back" safety feature reset.
I also attached a Youtube link that goes into detail about what the Auxiliary battery does.

just saw an interesting post on one of the f150 groups ran by a dude named tank legacy vet who seems to know his stuff pretty well:

i also have experienced the window bounce back issue. took that to the dealer and they fixed it. i never asked what was going on, but the dealer said it happens quite a bit on all kinds of vehicles.

Mechanically, the vehicle is decent. The door closing is pretty tinny, but that's it. On the electronics side: the trip meter resets when I most need it. The dashboard even rebooted once while I was driving down the road. Officer: how fast were you going? Me: IDK, bro, my dashboard rebooted. And, the entertainment display reboots randomly, but usually reconnects to my phone. Once it just went black for a day or so.
This is the first time I've bought a Ford. My wife bought a Toyota, and I'm feeling pretty stupid.

I just noticed my 2023 LX is resetting the trip 1, trip 2, and view screens if I leave the door open for around 10 minutes. Trip 1 and trip 2 mpg and miles driven reset to zero, but total running time is not affected.
I am curious if other people are now able to duplicate this issue consistently and if there is a solution that works to resolve the problem. Since not all people use the trip screens, they may not realize that this issue is happening, but I’m sure there are many more people that are affected. It also sounds like it’s been happening since 2021. As best as I can tell, it affects all F150 cluster models and other Ford Models as well.
