Default Which tire?

So I am due for a new set of tires. I am torn between the Nitto Ridge Grappler and the Recon Grappler? Any feed back on either?

I am leaning toward the Recon at this point since I am not upsizing right now. Wife doesn't want to need a step stool to get a 6 month old in a car seat lol.

Live where winter is a real season, cold, snow, cold damp roads? If so, may want to consider another brand. I have not used Nitto Ridge Grappler and the Recon Grappler, but have G2's and the compounds used were unforgiving below 40 degrees F. I have heard comment similar about the rest of the line. The Nittos have a lot going for them otherwise. KM

I’m running 295/70/18 recons on my truck right now with ridges sitting in the garage. After 20k miles the ridges just got a bit to loud, they started out tolerable but the hum just got to me. The recons after 5k miles are still no louder then stock and wet traction is better, also you can’t beat the look of the sidewalls. I have no complaints.

I ran Nitto Trail Grappler MT’s on my 2015 F-150 for 50k miles and had no complaints. Smoothest running MT tire I’ve ever driven. I ran Ridge Grapplers on my wife’s Jeep and they were great as well.

Is there anything better than a comment or review by someone that hasn't owned the product they are commenting or reviewing on? You know who you are

I'm on my second set of ridge's. Got 45k on the first set on my 2018 and had 50% tread left. Zero issues in the snow two years in CT or rain after two more years in FL. On my second set now on my 2022 with only a few thousand miles. Never had a traction issue. As a ref point, I had G2's on my 2017 and I thought the traction was significantly worse than the ridge's in wet weather. But I didn't own them in the snow. I also did not care for the bland sidewall of the G2's.

Ridge's are louder than stock without a doubt, but that's expected. But they aren't as loud as they should be considering the way they look.

Time stamped at the results for the G2 - worth watching/listening to the results for the other tyres for a real comparison - without testing tyres, especially against what others are available on the market, someone's opinion on their performance isn't really as useful as would be nice.

I had Ridge Grapplers, horrible wet traction compared to the Terra Grapplers...I took them back where i got them and put Terra Grapplers back on. I had originally emailed Nitto and explained how i ran Terra Grapplers the last 8 years without issues and asked about the ridge, their response was "they are superior in all aspects, might be a tad louder." When i complained after owning the Ridge grapplers and told them i didnt agree, they said, "oh, thats not science or testing backed, just from average reviews."

Lots of guys seem to like the Ridge for looks...a lot of bad real world reviews in both rain and snow if you ask a wider audience like one of the facebook groups.

Ironically, the last two sets of Terra Grapplers ive had didnt perform as well as the last few sets, made the switch to Falken Wildpeaks and they are much better in snow and rain as well as smoother and quieter. For reference, ive had over 10 different sets of wheels and tires on 4 different 13th gen F150's as well as Terra Grapplers on a 2003 Silverado, 2012 Sierra, and a 2014 Ram.
