When I worked at a bodyshop it wasn't out of the ordinary to use the portapower, a come-along, or even the frame machine to pull in or push out the top of a bed. I've never done this on an aluminum bed, but have on steel.
I have thought about that. When I have time, I will first look at the hinge adjustment, and then consider other options.
Well, after only a month and a half, I finally found time to try adjusting my tailgate alignment. I worked on the right side, and decided to try loosening the hinge with the tail gate in place, so it would be easier to check.
The upper bolt is easy, with the tailgate open. That's a T-50 bolt.
The lower bolt is visible with the tailgate closed. I used a long wobble extension to get the T-50 socket in there.
I shifted the right hinge lower by about 1/8". The alignment looks much better, with improved L and R gaps.
The clearance at the top of the tailgate is still a bit tighter on the left, but it no longer rubs.
One problem: the top of the tailgate is now a bit lower than the rubber flap on the cap. I pulled it free and then reglued it lower.
No, I did take time to wash the truck when I got home, but then went out on some gravel roads again. Always dusty in time for some DIY photos, I guess.
