tailgate release
I guess you’re in for a surprise.
That has nothing to do with the tailgate.
that’s just a “cover” requiring removal using the ignition key.
aw heck. Just watch the video….

I went to pick up the truck yesterday (finally) but before I could get there the salesman said he was going thru the truck and the power tailgate would not release. They took it back to the service dept and they tore it apart. It was a bad module and Ford overnighted it to the dealer. It did not arrive today before the service dept went home so they are suppose to finish it by noon tomorrow and then I will finally get my new truck that was ordered in April.
At the dealer now for repair, turns out it’s not the lock actuator and now they are looking at the wiring. Think they would have done that last week when it was in here. Hope I didn’t get a Lemon!
Update- they replaced the module in the tailgate. It will now release manually but not electronically. They think now it’s a module in the dash. I had them put it together and I picked it up. I have errands to run and needed the truck. They ordered the new module and they’re waiting for me to bring the truck in to get it serviced.
They just told me mine needs a new harness, it isn’t getting a ground to release the lock. Shop foreman did not want to cut into the harness on a brand new truck to repair, which I appreciate. Awaiting parts now! Left the back panel off so at least I can open the tailgate manually.
