Default Tailgate open alarm

My 2023 XLT has no tailgate open alarm. I watched youtube video on Ranger pickup. He used magnetic sensor on tailgate and bed. Ran wires from bed to cab, used quick connects to tap into door open wires from passenger door. That puts tailgate switch in parallel with door sensor. The only thing I noticed is his Ranger just had a light that came on whereas mine tells me which door is open. I don't really care if tailgate is on passenger door. Does anybody know if this will work on my truck. I know there are wireless options I can add on but they are costly and some use batteries that have to be replaced.

Just use backup camera if you are not sure.

I want indication tailgate is down. I know I check myself. And going down highway, probably won't be checking backup camera.

I enabled backup camera at any speed through forscan. It’s not just checking the tailgate, but also you trailer. A pretty handy feature.

No camera on my truck can see my tailgate. Maybe that is because I have a tonneua cover.

The most elegant solution is if my 2023 XLT has the bulb and wiring for a tailgate sensor to find the wire and connect and it light that up.
Or maybe it is possible to wire tailgate sensor to driver door. That way I don't have to add a light to cabin.

Your backup camera is in the tailgate.
Enable cameras at speed and switch on your backup camera. If you're seeing nothing but pavement, it's open.
