Would be nice to know if they solved the problem of the tailgate hitting some trailers jacks? My 03 Supercrew didn't it but my 15 does. Most annoying thing. Will have to wait and see.
you can find longer ball mounts places. I solved mine by getting the swivel up jacks on all my trailers. I have a Reese one I think that is 18 inches from pin hole to ball hole. It was hard to find, but they are out there.
Solved my problem. The problem isn't the tailgate, but the trailer.
Sorry, but that would not work on that trailer above. An 8" extension still would still not clear my tailgate, and the 5,000# capacity is not even close.
It seems that the longer the extender is, the less towing capacity you have. The 18" is even worse. See below.
Extenders do not seem the way to go unless you are towing light.
Funny I see this thread today. I just finished up my 6x12 open trailer modification last night. I fabbed everything up and brought the trailer to an aluminum welder last night. $80 & I gave him a $10 tip since I was able to wait for him to weld it up and then take the trailer home same night. No photo ATM of the finished job, but well worth it. Might do it to my 7x16 enclosed aluminum trailer as well. So sick of tailgates getting whacked.
Seems like it’s a trailer problem not a truck problem. My trailer has what they call a setback jack.
Agreed. Definitely not a truck problem. Setback jack isn't a special jack though. It's just the company making them puts a plate further back for the jack to go. Same as what I did.
Wish more companies would just add a couple plates and move it back. It isn't 1990 anymore with smaller tailgates.
