Default Tailgate Detents

Have a 2022 XLT 4x4. There are 2 square openings on top of the tailgate which you can press open, then they pop back closed. What are they used for?

This is part of the work area built into the work space tail gate. They are used for clamps if you need to clamp down a board for drilling and cutting.....

Although they look handy for someone in the construction field they look like something I'm never going to use. I bet most people won't.

When you have the rear tailgate down you can put clamps in there to hold down a piece of wood, etc

I use mine to tow my trash barrels up the hill sometimes when they are extra heavy.

Honestly the one "work surface" item I wish I would have optioned for. Simple cut out in the tailgate and extremely useful.

Someone should make tie down points that go into the clamping spot. Like the pop-up rings you can put in the side of the bed. I often want to strap things to stay up against the tailgate

That's a great idea! A sturdy c-clamp would actually work pretty well for that.

Great idea. I gave it a try with small C clamps, and it works. I’ve tried to see clamps and two different orientations. It doesn’t seem to matter which way I use since I’m not putting too much stress on them. But this has reinforced my view that someone should make a product that pops out in there and has a pop-up ring to tie off to
