Thank you for the responses, I do have the tailgate step so I'll take your advice. This site can get expensive, especially with all the stuff you guys talk about that I didn't even know they made but now I need. Thanks a lot, boomer.

I put one on my 2016 also. It slows the tailgate a small fraction opening. Closing it does not seem to be doing anything.
