Starting generator remotely?
I live in the Tampa Bay area and it looks like we are going to take a hit tomorrow night. I have a question. I had an electrician rewire my subpanel and install a plug on the outside of the house. When, not if, we lose power I really don't want to walk out in 80 MPH winds and start my truck to get the generator working. Here is my question.
If I plug my truck in to the house can I remote start my truck and have it automatically go in to generator mode. That way all I'd have to do is throw the breaker from inside the house, grab my phone and start the truck and KAZAM!!! I have power.

Best way to find your answer is test it before tomorrow.
Plug in your truck
Flip the switch to receive power from the truck
Start your truck and see if it goes into generator mode.
Kill the truck flip the switch back to normal.
Fast test and you will know for sure.

You live near Tampa and you’re still there??Coming from a midwesterner who knows nothing about hurricanes, I thought everyone that could evacuate would have done so by now.

While you can start the truck using your remote (or the app)....doing so will NOT enable the generator output.
You MUST push the start button to enable even the low power mode.....further.....
The default is "low power" mode - you either have to manually select GENERATOR MODE....OR you much ACKNOWLEDGE (via the infotainment screen) that something is sensed (plugged in to the outlet/power center in the bed) and that you desire or acknowledge the you want to enable Generator mode.
Even if you could enable even low power mode via remote start - the run time and extensions on run time is limited....and eventually you'll have to enter the truck and start it in a conventional manner.
Good luck w/ this storm & please be safe!

I just ran my home off the truck for 4 days. You will haft to choose what you and your wife wont to run while the power is off, your water heater or the electric range or the AC. And note which leg on the truck you are pulling power from. You have 3800 watts per leg. You might not be pulling but 3900 watts but if it’s all on one leg that will be an over load. I tried to keep an eye on the the truck to balance the load. You should have a full tank of fuel. I used over 20 gallons running a light load and no AC keeps everything that wasn’t essential off.
Good luck keep up informed.
