Stupid question. I’m still awaiting 3.5.3 and have auto updates on. When the truck is parked and off, are updates only via WiFi or does it also have the cell connection active too? I think it’s only wifi, but never thought to ask to be sure.

I don’t drive every day, but I try to use Ford Pass to lock the truck each night before bed just to insure Ford knows it’s reachable. This signal comes over wifi, hence why I think it’s only the WiFi that is active. This locking process is probably not needed, but it makes me feel like I’m being proactive in some silly way so they know the truck is still alive and to put it into the OTA queue…!!

Not a single OTA has been released that requires Wi-Fi. They can all be done with the trucks data plan. As long as you live in an area with good cell phone coverage, there's no need to be on Wi-Fi.

Well, at least my thoughts in that area were correct. If I had been born smart it is an area where I would have gone into. The "smarts" in our family went to my sister and I ended up with what was left over.
The third attempt by dealer was to install a new APIM. But it did not help.
One thing that makes me think something is still messed up is when you go to the display and set a time and day of week you want updates to arrive it changes back to Thursday at midnight. Change it to Monday at 3:00am, save it, come back to truck a short time later and it is back to Thursday at midnight. Always comes back to that setting. The Ford app on my phone always shows Wednesday at 12:07am.
Router in garage is 8 feet from the truck and truck is connected. 450Mbps download speed. So it is not my connection.
Keep up the good work trouble shooting.

But the manual states Wi-Fi is the best way. My cell tower is a tad bit away from me. Only one bar on phone, but the phone does work.

If you have poor cellular coverage, the WiFi may be a better options for you. All I am saying is every update released so far can be downloaded using the trucks data plan and none of them require WiFi to be downloaded.

Post or PM me your VIN so I can take a look at your truck and check if there anything I can see that would be helpful.

I use wifi already with auto updates enabled forever. I just wondered if the truck listens on wifi, cell or both with not running and parked in the garage. The garage has a dedicated access point and the truck has not had issues connecting. Was just curious.

OH, you are really going to like this one. Ford just called me and stated that they checked with their IT department and they stated my 2021 F-150 Lariat built about June of 2021 was never designed to get any updates. This call was NOT from my dealer. If that is true, then why in hell does the display show how to set the truck for updates? They just throw that in all trucks? Sounds like a cover up to me. For my "inconvenience" they offered me a 7 year warranty at a cost of zero dollars.
So just what in hell is Ford pulling this time?

It seems like I checked your truck before back on 10/28. No OTA history in the past 60 days. When I try to see what Sync version you're on, it appear blank and says an OTA was sent to you on 9/22 and it most likely failed, which is why your Sync version is in blank.

Looking through your vehicle history, I see dealers tried to update and run module repair processes on your truck and they failed. There is a note in FDRS on 9/29 that says your APIM got locked due to too many attempts at programming it. Did they ever replace your APIM?

If you're on wifi, it would only switch over to cellular data if the wifi disconnects for some reason.
