Default Screw it - Going with the HDPP

While I primarily need a daily driver and don't even own a travel trailer yet, I don't want to be boxed in by payload limitations which plague the higher trim levels. Damn, I really wanted a well equipped Lariat w/PB but given the poor payload, I'm configuring as follows: 2022 XLT FX4, eco boost, max payload and HDPP, plus adaptive cruise control (thank God Ford included this for the 2022s w/HDPP). I'm actually thrilled to be getting a new truck that will be a true F150 TV with a touch of convenience/comfort features. The ONE thing that irks me the most is the tiny *** screen that comes with the mid level xlt, but first world problems, right? Looking forward to reserving a my unicorn as soon as I can find a dealership that isn't marking up their prices. I've had a ton of great advice from this community and have learned quite a bit! Cheers!

Great decision. Adaptive cruise is a total game changer. I can't understand why Ford won't offer HDPP on all trim levels and engines. Imagine a Powerboost King Ranch HDPP!! (In Kodiak Brown as long as I am throwing pennies down the wishing well lol).

I would double check the value of the FX4 before buying, but other than that I pretty much have the same build in a 163.7" wheelbase.

The FX4 shocks aren't used in an HDPP F150, as there are unique HDPP shocks. (There is no unique shock used for FX4 with HDPP. It's either one or the other.) You already get the locking rear axle with most packages. Basically what you get is skid plates, hill descent control, and a sticker. I personally decided the only thing I really wanted was skid plates, and aftermarket versions were cheaper than the FX4 package and also significantly stronger.

Hey, thanks for the info! Didn't realize that redundancies between the FX4 and HDPP packages. What's your payload, if you don't mind me asking?

I’m stoked for my HDPP XLT 301A to come in…I did option for the FX4 as I knew I was going to be adding floor liners regardless and I do some moderate off-roading a couple of times per year (liners, skid plates and rock/crawl mode were worth the price tag for me). This will be my daily driver (replacing a Toyota Highlander which I really enjoyed, but can’t keep up with my current and future towing needs), so I’ve added almost every option available (40/console/40, on board scales/smart hitch, tow mirrors, moon roof, running boards, remote start). I was initially INFURIATED I couldn’t get HDPP with the 302A - I really wanted LED’s and the 12-inch center stack monitor. However, I’ve since seen a few trucks with the 8-inch center stack and column shifter and really like the look…also, there are plenty of guys/gals complaining about Ford’s overlay on the 12-inch screen. They really limit your viewing options for full screen views, so they essentially have a 8-inch screen with an informational side-car monitor.

Looking at other’s builds, the only other thing I wish I had ordered prior to getting locked in is the 360 camera…but I’ve never had them before, so I don’t think I’ll really miss them (especially for the $700-ish they would have added to my build). My dealer has been awesome…gave me straight invoice pricing with $1000 retail order bonus and 0% financing / 72 months. And their service guys spent about an hour with me and the resource book to give me a solid estimate on my expected payload with my build (2,350#-2,450#). Fingers crossed they are right…but I’ll be happy with anything over 2,000#.

Good luck on your build! Embrace the wait!

301A was a no brainer for me. You get it for half price becuase of the rebate plus I bought Z-plan so it comes out to be approximately $800.
